Athens State University has received a $12,000 grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to fund the 2025 Fiddlers Concert Series, a year-long series of bluegrass concerts that coordinates with the annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention.

With these funds, Athens State will be able to secure top-notch bluegrass talent to allow music enthusiasts to enjoy the sounds of old-time music throughout the year. This grant signifies that through this project, Athens State is making Alabama’s communities stronger and our state’s arts and culture sector more vibrant.

“Support from the Alabama State Council on the Arts allows us to bring in top caliber bluegrass entertainers while keeping the cost for patrons, especially families with children, affordable,” said Dr. Keith Ferguson, Vice President for University Advancement. “We sincerely appreciate the work of the Council and their support of culturally diverse music genres that are historically significant to the State of Alabama.”

The 2025 concert series line-up includes:

  • December 3, 2024 – Andy Leftwich & Friends
  • January 16, 2025 – Kenny & Amanda Smith
  • March 4, 2025 – The Tennessee Bluegrass Band
  • May 15, 2025 – Act of Congress

This grant, awarded by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, is made possible through funding from an annual appropriation from the Alabama State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. This public support enables Athens State University to reach new audiences, foster community development, provide the highest quality programming, and demonstrate the importance of arts as a key component for quality of life in Alabama.
