Bluegrass-induced toe-tapping under way as Fiddlers Convention comes to Athens

The sounds of bluegrass banjos and old-time singing filled the air Friday morning on the historic campus of Athens State University in preparation for musical competitions of the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention.

The 150-booth crafts fair opened this morning, along with food vendors of all types, as musicians hold jam sessions or practice for upcoming contests. The convention has historically attracted more than 15,000 people for the two-day event, with more than 200 musicians participating in the musical competition.
