Fiddler’s Receipts Benefit Athens State Students
Some of the proceeds from last year’s Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention will award two initiatives supporting students and student services.
The Dr. Ronald McNutt Scholarship was endowed with a gift of $15,000 from the convention committee. The scholarship is available to students regardless of concentration and is administered through the Athens State University Foundation.
A $50,000 gift from the convention committee is designated to support WIFI improvements to assure proper internet connectivity in every area of campus. The current WIFI signal will be upgraded to provide better service to the students, faculty and staff.
Athens State hosted the 48th annual Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention on Oct. 3-4, 2014 on the school’s campus. The convention historically attracts more than 15,000 people for the two-day event, with more than 200 musicians participating in the musical competition.
The Fiddlers Convention is the largest fundraising effort by the University’s Foundation and one of the largest tourism events in north Alabama.
